I’m Lura Carey, CMHC, RN of Carey Counseling Services (at the Juracan Center, LLC). I was raised in southern California and moved to Utah in 1978 with my two young children. I became an RN in 1980 and have worked in health care ever since. I lived 5 years in Hawaii and a year in Florida.
After more than 30 years as a Registered Nurse, I was drawn to Counseling as a second career while conquering my own life challenges. Following the suicide death of my husband, I struggled with symptoms of trauma and PTSD. I developed panic attacks. I felt misunderstood and completely out of control. Although being in groups was difficult, I also felt very alone and could barely leave my house. I barely recognized myself but I was determined to gain an understanding of what was happening and to take back my life!
Motivated to not only survive but to thrive, I began educating myself. First I found a training program in bereavement facilitation and then I returned to school to complete my Master’s training in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I attended more therapy and with the help of a great support system I started my second career to help people in a deeply meaningful way.
I am committed to providing my clients with the tools they need to better navigate the problems they face and enrich their relationships. In addition to grief work, I have also completed advanced professional trainings in treating trauma, codependency, LGBT and gender issues, conflicted relationships, and attachment disorders.
Making a commitment to participate in therapy is a very personal journey. I will feel honored to accompany you by listening, offering perspective, and providing support along with the concrete tools you can use to achieve your goals.
If you are ready to invest in your healing, health, and happiness, and your relationships, let’s get started. I work with highly motivated people who want to release the stuff that keeps them stuck and robs them of their happy future. I love to empower people in my office. I believe the answers you seek are within you. Together we will clear away the blockages and find the solutions you seek. Don’t wait another day to find the peace you deserve.
My education includes a Bachelor’s degree in behavioral science at Utah Valley University and a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Phoenix. I have experience with adults and adolescents in medical hospitals, residential treatment centers and psychiatric hospitals for more than 30 years.
I offer you hope in the darkness of life’s challenges; specializing in death / grieving, PTSD, adoption, depression, LGBT issues and anxiety disorders. If you feel lost, abandoned, alone, and isolated, contact me. Together, we can illuminate your path and restore your sense of peace.
